Ocean Baker, the 22-year-old artist, entrepreneur, and CEO behind the rapidly ascending premium streetwear label Natsukashii Ink, has officially been named the Rising Creative Icon of 2026. The high-profile distinction, awarded by The Insider Weekly, honors Baker’s trailblazing approach to blending Japanese-inspired tattoo aesthetics, West Coast skate and surf culture, and modern luxury into an ethical, story-driven apparel powerhouse.
The Rising Creative Icon award is reserved for exceptional young visionaries who are actively shifting the landscape of their respective industries. At just 22 years old, Baker has successfully transitioned Natsukashii Ink from a teenage passion project into an internationally recognized brand, making major waves from the local Vancouver fashion scene all the way to Hollywood red carpets.
Baker’s journey into design began as a 12-year-old “sneakerhead” and hypebeast who chose creation over collection. By age 16, he was mastering pattern making and cutting garments under an established designer in Vancouver and handcrafting sneakers from scratch in Los Angeles with the world-renowned Shoe Surgeon. In 2023, he turned his vision into reality by founding Natsukashii Ink. Derived from the Japanese word Natsukashii, which evokes a warm, fond nostalgia for the past, the brand stands out for its meticulous craftsmanship, limited-edition runs, and heavy focus on personal, artistic storytelling.
The award follows a massive wave of momentum for Baker in early 2026. For the second consecutive year, Natsukashii Ink took center stage in Los Angeles during Academy Awards® week, where Baker’s signature ink-driven designs and custom streetwear apparel were featured at the prestigious Oscars® celebrity gifting suites. His creations have quickly become favorites among trendsetters and Hollywood elite, worn by notable figures including the NBA Utah Jazz’s DJ Smooth, film director Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe, model Chaun Williams, and celebrity photographer Kimberly Butler.
